30 hours Famine

Dear Students:

Over 29,000 kids will die from hunger and hunger related disease everyday! Let’s use this year’s Famine to make a dent into world hunger and to make a lasting impression on ourselves, so that we will always remember to help those in need.
In doing the Famine, you will be asked to fast for 30 hours starting at 1:00 pm on Friday (or after your lunch) till 6:00 pm on Saturday. For fasting 30 hours, you will ask friends, relatives, family, and neighbors to sponsor you. Perhaps you could say, “would you please sponsor me a dollar an hour?” When give us the completed student registration, the parent consent form, and the appropriate medical release form. More detailed information can be found in the back of this packet.
You can invite your friends to participate, but they must have all their forms filled out and signed. This year we will try to match the service projects to the type of ministry that you want. However, we cannot guarantee you a service project that will fit your talents and desires. You might get stuck at DCBC cleaning David Tang’s office. So please make the commitment and register early!
Here’s a tentative schedule of the famine events

8:00 -8:45 pm Message
8:45 -10:00 pm Famine Awareness Game/Team Activity
10:00 -10:30 pm Water/juice break (the youth who are not staying will leave)
10:30 -11:30 pm Free Time
11:30 -12:00 am Get ready for bed
12:00 am Lights OFF & SLEEP!

SATURDAY, MARCH 8, 2008

7:30-8:00 am Wake everyone up & get ready (juice/water break)
8:00-9:00 am Devotional
9:00-3:30 pm SERVICE PROJECT
3:30-4:00 pm Clean Up & Reflection Time
4:00-5:30 pm Free time
5:30-6:30 pm Worship, message, group sharing
6:30-7:30 pm Dinner & Slideshow
7:30-8:00 pm Clean up

Remember to bring your bible, a pen, toiletries, a sleeping bag, and a change of clothes. If you have any questions, please call or e-mail your church’s youth director.

Please Remember…

· Please make sure you indicate your service project preferences, we are not mind readers. Note that we cannot guarantee that you will get your #1 preference, but we will try our best.

· There may be limited space to stay at DCBC.

· Please collect all of your pledges BEFORE 30-Hour Famine. DO NOT turn in cash because we won’t take cash! Have your parents write a check payable to World Vision for all the cash donations you collect.

RULES @ 30-Hour Famine

· Boys are not allowed in the girls’ sleeping areas and vice versa.

· No game consoles, portable game devices, mp3 players, etc. allowed.

· Follow the directions of the adult leaders concerning where to sleep and when to sleep. We want everyone to have energy to serve the community.

· No horse playing in the church. We want everyone to be safe.

· Participate in all facets of the event, including the team activities and service projects.

· Respect & LISTEN to the adult leaders. Be loving and kind toward everyone.

· Failure to cooperate with the adult leaders will result in the student not being able to spend the night at DCBC and/or being sent home from church/service projects.
